Senior Developer - Elixir/Ruby (m/f/d)

Job description

To join our Product Development Team, we are looking for a Senior Developer

(m/f/d)to start as soon as possible.

The Product Development Team

At BetterDoc, we have developed and now enhance a system to support the assignment of patients to physicians who can optimally treat them - depending on the patient's condition, we find the best doctor to treat him or her. All developers work on different parts of our stack, both in the frontend and the backend as well as the runtime environment, with various focus areas. Our next big steps are automation of the patient physician matching process and the equipment and operation of the data science platform. We value curiosity and learning - to support this, we give you a team-wide place to experiment and learn 20% of the time you are here. You can invest this time to visit a conference, contribute to open source software or start your own open source project. We are proud to trust our people instead of controlling them. Our team organises itself and reflects on how to improve our working mode.

We depend on self-motivation. We offer a lot and count on you to grab what you need

Requirements

At BetterDoc, a developer should

  • be self-motivated;
  • write code in a sustainable way;
  • understand and embrace architectural guidelines;
  • be proficient in one or more programming language;
  • work with subject matter experts;
  • review pull requests of other team members;
  • be able to participate in all phases of the development process;
  • interact with our operations staff, the users of the software, and
  • help juniors improve their skills.

At BetterDoc, you will work to deliver value, not to fulfil a spec. We value curiosity, the will to learn and the drive to deliver great software. We look for people that want to see their influence on what was created and who are proud of their craft.

These cross-functional teams delivering value in focused, self-managed projects.

important. You should be able to express proposals and decisions, as well as task descriptions

in written form. Team language is English, being able to communicate in German is a plus.

Remote work, your location!

We support fully remote work, in addition to our office in Cologne, Germany. Although we support fully remote work, we cannot allow developers to work from non-EU countries, for legal reasons. About BetterDoc:

Who we are and what we do

We are BetterDoc, an e-Health start-up with over 120 employees located in Cologne and Basel. We help patients with serious illnesses and complex diagnoses by recommending the best possible specialist for their specific health problem. To accomplish this, we collect quality data from the healthcare system, conduct our own research, and survey our patients. Since 2012, we have already been able to help many thousands of patients in finding the right doctor for their specific health problem.

Why we do it

We want to give every single patient the best possible access to healthcare in Germany and Switzerland. It is still far too common for patients to be left alone after a diagnosis, hoping for a competent second opinion and having to undergo unnecessary treatment or surgery - a major burden for patients and our healthcare system. Our services improve patients' quality of life, contribute to greater transparency in the healthcare system, and reduce treatment and therapy costs by providing tailored treatment recommendations. Who we are committed to BetterDoc is solely committed to the well-being of the patient. Owner-managed since our founding in 2012, we act independently of doctors, clinics and networks and thus avoid conflicts of interest in our doctor and treatment recommendations. We work closely with (health) insurances in Germany and Switzerland and ensure that, with these collaborations, our patients can use the BetterDoc service for free. We also integrate our service into the corporate health management of employers throughout Germany.

Where we want to go

More than 20 million people already have free access to our service. Through further collaborations in the insurance and employer sectors, we want to continuously increase the number of patients to whom BetterDoc is available at no cost so we can meet their individual

needs. Today, many different employees (biologists, physiotherapists, and physicians) work at BetterDoc and dedicate themselves to each individual patient case. Today, we are developing a unique data analysis-driven system to work more efficiently and to facilitate the search for the best-individualized care. Patient by patient - we want to contribute to improving the quality of the healthcare system in Germany, Switzerland and many other countries and to make it sustainable and affordable in the long term.

A job that matters

There are few other German start-ups in which you would have such a direct opportunity to help people who have suffered a health emergency and to improve their quality of life. Whether in software development, accounting or patient care - our employees make a valuable contribution to society with their work
