one.five is a biomaterials discovery and development company transforming material science solutions into radically better packaging for the FMCG space.

Their vision is to design eco-saving materials with data. By evaluating a technology’s likelihood of success in its earlier stages of development, they aim to reduce the time it traditionally takes to get a product to market. At the same time, they achieve market success by acting on the needs and wants of all critical stakeholder groups along the packaging value chain, such as packaging converters, brand owners, and local waste infrastructure.

Now, they are looking for a procurement manger who is responsible for ensuring timely supply of all purchasing requirements for one.five’s operations, including OPEX (e.g., supplies and consumables) and CAPEX (e.g., equipment, infrastructure, machinery) purchases. 

Main responsibilities

• Register requirements from internal and external clients and convert into purchase orders;
• execute purchase orders and ensure timely delivery with suppliers;
• ensure availability of materials and manage inventory;
• exercise interface function especially with the logistics and finance functions; and 
• build and continuously improve a purchasing & supplier database and supplier performance management system. Furthermore, the procurement manager ensures that purchases are made in accordance with company policies, strategies, and goals.

The Tasks in detail

• Register requirements from internal and external clients and convert into purchase orders

  1. Register requirements of purchase requests from internal clients (i.e., operations) and external clients (e.g., scientific partners) incl. product characteristics such as required quality level, required minimum quantities, timeline, etc

  2. Translate requirements into product specifications and source products matching to these specifications with existing suppliers or new suppliers and/or find alternative products that satisfy the specifications

  3. Evaluate offers from a commercial (i.e., price, payment terms, etc.) and technical (i.e., quality/specifications, delivery times, quantity) point of view, if necessary, together with internal/external clients, to ensure that the company obtains the best possible price in relation to quality without compromising its cash position

  4. If necessary, improve economic terms through impact levers, e.g., tender processes, direct negotiations, auctions, setting up framework agreements or long-term contracts, etc

  5. Deal with difficult purchase situations by maintaining a calm demeanour, remaining objective and using negotiation skills to find solutions to problems

  6. Select best supplier and convert purchase request into purchase order (potentially including creating contracts and terms and conditions)

• Execute purchase orders and ensure timely delivery with suppliers
  1. Execute purchase orders based on client requirements and follow-up with suppliers
  2. Track delivery performance (e.g., OTIF) and conduct regular performance discussions with key supplier
•  Ensure availability of materials and manage inventory
  1. Ensure check of completeness and timely receipt of orders (in coordination with logistics function) and track data; in case of incorrect delivery (quantity/quality), coordinate communication with supplier
  2. Manage inventory levels through a variety of methods that include forecasting demand, maintaining an adequate level of stock in warehouse, forecasting capacity requirements and balancing supply issues
• Exercise interface function especially with the logistics and finance & controlling functions
  1. Coordinate delivery with logistics function and inform clients on the expected delivery time of their respective purchase orders, ideally via an order tracking system (to be developed)
  2. Coordinate invoice receipt & control, payment as well as potential activation of CAPEX items with finance & controlling function
  3. Support other departments functions by providing relevant data, quotes and product information as requested
• Build and continuously improve a purchasing & supplier database and supplier performance
  1. Track and provide timely feedback on purchase prices for future purposes
  2. Monitor the availability of materials on the market and identify potential alternatives if necessary
  3. Build a comprehensive database of key suppliers in each procurement category, also using knowledge of raw materials markets to identify potential new suppliers to add to the data base 
  4. Monitor industry trends to identify new sourcing opportunities, incl. product alternatives or alternative supply chains
  5. Ensure compliance with all local laws concerning taxation, safety standards or any other legislation where appropriate.

• Master’s degree in accounting, finance, business management or a relevant field preferred

• 3-5 years of relevant working experience in procurement or similar functions

• Strong communication and negotiation skills

• Good analytical and strategic thinking skills

• Attention to detail

• Reliable, responsible, and punctual, with a positive attitude and high degree of independence • Team player with an attitude of service to internal clients

• Knowledge of MS Office and other purchasing software
  

• Preferably some technical knowledge in relevant product categories such as consumables, laboratory equipment, chemicals and/or nutrients

• Fluency in English and German.
